West Texas Offers Some of the Greatest Wind Energy Potential in the U.S.

With a 16% growth rate for 2012 alone, wind energy is one of the fastest growing renewable energy sources and has been for the last decade. Texas used wind energy for 7.8% of its electricity in 2010 and has the most installed wind energy capacity in the United States. Of the wind energy operations in Texas, 24% are located in the Texas Plains Region, according to the Texas State Energy Conservation Office, but the rich area of wind energy potential is still only partially developed. Installation rates for wind energy generators are also anticipated to increase every year through 2015.
