Wi-Fi Thermostats Connect Utilities to Consumers

With the rise of the smart grid, thermostat producer Honeywell has introduced its own Energy Management Platform, which is a system the company developed with software company OPower. The system includes a smart, programmable thermostat that can schedule heating and cooling for a home through the internet. It offers a questionnaire that consumers can fill out to get personalized recommendations for energy saving techniques and products, as well as the technology for utilities to link their own demand response programs through Honeywell’s Energy Management System. Honeywell hopes that having the control of their heating and cooling through smartphones and tablets, consumers will become more involved with their utilities and the efficiency of their homes.
