Wind Energy Now 30 Percent of MidAmerican’s Power Generation

MidAmerican Energy, the largest utility in Iowa, now generates almost 30 percent of its total from wind energy. The completion of three wind power projects in 2012 added 407 megawatts of wind power to the utility, fulfilling a previous approval from the Iowa Utilities Board to add 1,001 megawatts of wind-powered generation before 2013. The three projects were manufactured for the utility by Siemens AG, Mortenson Construction, and Wanzek Construction and were funded by the Production Tax Credit, which expired at the end of 2012. With the projects complete, MidAmerican has added a total of 2,285 megawatts of wind generation capacity since 2004.
